C63 Coupe preview
feature, the Lexus RC F doesn't really stack up too well. It's heaviest, has the least torque and arguably has the least desirable badge too. In our experience
with the car
it has proven likeable and capable though, if not quite matching the class best.
Because it was such a shy car beforehand
While we're not saying the addition of a Burnt Orange wrap, Volk TE37 wheels (how do they always work so well on Japanese cars?) and KW coilovers would change that, this SEMA concept does look sick. Or dope. Or whatever the cool kids who modify cars call good things nowadays. It's interesting enough to write about, put it that way.
Focus your eyes beyond the orange and you will see a six-point roll cage provided by Evasive Motorsports and Sparco FIA approved seats. A widebody kit may sound a bit Need For Speed but suits the bold RC F aesthetic quite well, even if the spoiler is about a foot too tall. The modifications are completed by a Greddy exhaust, Takeda intake system and Brembo brakes. Perhaps about show more than go but worthwhile changes nonetheless.
Here now we could speculate on a lighter road car again, ditching some of the luxury and creating a more raw, intense V8 sports car experience. Just like the Pikes Peak car in fact. But Lexus is all about luxury and it's hardly something the market is crying out for so it'll have to remain a pipe dream for now...
Almost demure compared to the RC...
Elsewhere on the Lexus SEMA stand there is a
GS F
, again in orange and with the exhaust and intake tweaks found on the RC. There are 405mm discs on the front, a Tein prototype 'street advance damper kit' and modest - by SEMA standards - carbon rear lip too. Dare it be said this looks quite good too?
Finally there's the RC F GT3, on display at the show ahead of its first US race next year. Side-exit exhausts immediately make it cooler. And who wouldn't be scared by that front grille in the mirror? Watch for the RC F doing well in races with few finishers in 2016...
